Feb 2008: Principal filming has started on Pirate Trackers, a major documentary project that follows two dogs trained to sniff out pirated DVDs and CDs. We're shooting on HD in Ireland and Malaysia. I'm videographer and (likely) editor. More details online at piratetrackers.com

28 Sept 2007: Just upgraded my Apple Pro Certification to version 6 of Final Cut Pro (part of Final Cut Studio 2). Just in time too — the deadline was September 30th!

10 Sept 2007: FTV TalkingPoints goes live (or at least gets beyond the pre-launch stage!) Its taken a while to iron out the bugs, get the content and programming right, and settle on the best video platform, but we think we've got it right now. We decided on the Brightcove platform in the end. They seem to have the right combination of features, usability and reliability. See project case study, or visit the site.

3 Sept 2007: I've started teaching an Interactive Media course at my Alma Mata; the School of Creative Media. Its only part-time, once a week (thankfully), but its fun. I'm trying to cover the basics of web site design and construction in one semester, including teaching CSS to 'green' students. Now there's a challenge...

11 Aug 2007: A second video edit for the MPA: this time a promotion piece for Lucky & Flo, the MPA's new DVD-sniffing dogs. I'm compiling a 7-minute promo piece to be shown to movers and shakers in Washington, so they have some idea of the anti-piracy work being done by the MPA in Asia. Final Cut Pro really comes into its own when you have to combine HDV footage with standard DV footage, NTSC footage with PAL, and so on. Hope to put a clip in the videos section shortly.

13 Jun 2007:I'm shooting and editing coverage of a Film Production Workshop in Hong Kong, organised by the Motion Picture Association, and featuring top directors and screenwriters from Hollywood. This will be used to hopefully get more funding for film training workshops around the region, and possibly India next year.

22 Feb 2007:I'm directing and shooting (and later editing) video documentation of a major digital audio production workshop, featuring the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Organised by Robert Ellis-Geiger, this is the first attempt in Hong Kong at orchestral scoring and recording for film. Its being done at the (still unfinished) Shaw Studio complex in Tsuen Kwan O, with a 48-track digital setup into Nuendo. Should be interesting!

10 Jan 2007:I have a new multimedia work appearing in WRITING MACHINE COLLECTIVE II (visit site), at the Cattle Depot Artist's Village, January 12 to February 8. "Untitled Announcements" explores the nature of public service announcements in Hong Kong through the use of found texts and video clips that subvert the often patronising and "nanny-like" messages constantly bombarding the populous in Hong Kong. Will post samples in the media art section soon.
